Otsego Electric Cooperative, Inc. (OEC) is pleased to announce that it will be receiving $3.9 million from New York State to build a fiber-to-the-home project within our system which will provide about 1,750 members access to a state of the art network.  Service will be available at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second with no data limits sometime in the latter part of 2017.  OEC will offer Internet access and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service initially.  This grant will not cover OEC’s entire service area but plans are to bid for another grant when the State announces its next phase of funding.

OEC believes that providing adequate broadband access is consistent with our mission of enhancing the quality of life of our members and the communities in our area.  Access to high speed broadband will enable OEC system smart grid upgrades and our members will be able to access new education technology, e-commerce, and many other opportunities.  Service might also be offered to residences and businesses that are not served by OEC if the fiber network is near or adjacent to these properties. OEC invites members and anyone else who is interested to contact our office at 607-293-6622 if you have any questions.
