Otsego Electric Cooperative, Inc. (OEC) is pleased to announce that its new fiber optic broadband business, OEConnect, will be receiving $10 million from New York State and federal Connect America Funds to expand our fiber-to-the-home project to provide over 2,000 members’ homes access to a state of the art fiber-to-the-home network.  Service will be available at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second with no data capacity limits.  OEConnect will offer Internet access at 100 mbps for $49.95 and up to 1 gig for $79.95 and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service.  Coverage will extend primarily within OEC’s service area over 500 miles of lines. The project initially will not cover OEC’s entire service area but OEC hopes to eventually provide service to all members who have no other fiber or internet service available. Service will also be offered to residences and businesses that are not served by OEC if the fiber network is near or adjacent to these properties.

OEC believes that providing adequate broadband access is consistent with our mission of enhancing the local economy and the quality of life for our members and the communities in our area.  Access to high speed broadband will enable electric system smart grid upgrades and OEConnect customers will be able to access new education, technology, e-commerce, video streaming, live video conferencing, and many other opportunities.  OEC invites members and anyone else who is interested to contact our office at 607-293-6622 to be added to our waiting list and to ask any questions.

(This deployment of broadband service is supported by a grant awarded to Otsego Electric Cooperative by New York State through the New NY Broadband Program.)
